Office of Alumni Relations Launches Appreciation Effort

"You can't even begin to understand the history of Dartmouth without understanding the role alumni played."

Jere R. Danielle '55

The Office of Alumni Relations sponsored an Alumni Appreciation Week in April to thank Dartmouth alumni for their many contributions to the College. The week coincided with the annual Daniel Webster dinners, during which local alumni gather with members of the graduating class. It also featured a reception to recognize alumni employees, a presentation by Jere R. Daniell '55, professor of history emeritus, and a campaign to highlight just some of the ways Dartmouth alumni support the College.

For example, they:

  • Spend more than 230,000 hours volunteering for Dartmouth.
  • Interview more than 7,000 applicants (about half the applicant pool).
  • Support approximately one-third of the College's operating budget through contributions.
  • Participate in a mentor network 18,000 strong for advice on careers to students and other alumni.
  • Provide more than 180 student scholarships each year through classes and clubs.
