Fifteen students on campus met with Dr. Peter Mason, Dr. Jessie Reynolds, and Geisel Student Emily Dollar to talk about their work as physicians who have realized that medicine is only 15% of healthcare. All three of the panelists are passionate about being the trusting and guiding person that will help their patients navigate the healthcare system. They discussed the sensitivity, time, awareness, patience, and cultural competency this requires as each case walking in through the door is so complex. The panelists also shared with the students many of the motivating aspects of their professions within rural and family medicine, such as hearing stories, treating the holistic person, and the lifelong connections they are able to make with their patients. Thank you so much to the inspiring three panelists for a memorable event!
