Summer Hours Announced

May 1, 2023

During eleven (11) summer weeks, some administrative offices close a half hour earlier than at other times of the year. For the departments who extend summer hours to non-exempt staff, the summer hours schedule will begin on Sunday, June 25, 2023, and extend through Saturday, September 9, 2023. The decision to schedule summer hours rests with the department head. If you have questions about whether your department observes Summer Hours, please check with your supervisor or department head.

Dartmouth College Library Workers Union (DCLWU) FAQs

April 25, 2023

A set of Dartmouth College Library employees have chosen to become affiliated with American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 93 as part of The Dartmouth College Library Workers Union (DCLWU).  A petition for representation was submitted to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) on behalf of the DCLWU on April 18th, 2023. Dartmouth developed these FAQs to answer employee questions about the unionization efforts of the DCLWU. This page will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.

SEIU Memo of Understanding (MOU) Announced

March 7, 2023

We are pleased to announce that Dartmouth College and the Dartmouth College Employees Union, Local 560 of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), have agreed to a memorandum of agreement that updates their existing collective bargaining agreement. The updated agreement provides for 6% wage increases for all SEIU employee members, which will take effect June 18, 2023. The 6% increase is 3.5% higher than the wage increase that was previously negotiated as part of the current collective bargaining agreement for 2023/2024.

In addition, the updated agreement provides the following: reclassification for certain positions based on market demand (also going into effect on June 18, 2023), increases to shift premium pay for second and third shift, and the addition of Saturday pay, which both take effect March 26, 2023. The shift premium rate will be calculated at 15% premium for second-shift work and 20% premium for third-shift work. We hope the increased compensation in this wage agreement will enable Dartmouth to fill open union positions while retaining current employees.

Members of the Dartmouth administration and SEIU leadership worked collaboratively over the last several months to address matters raised by employees. The updated agreement recognizes Dartmouth’s commitment to our SEIU staff and addresses concerns related to the cost of living, recruitment, and retention. Both parties brought new suggestions to the table and made concessions that led to a mutually agreed upon resolution. We appreciate the process which brought compromise on both sides and concluded with wages that demonstrate a commitment to our employees.

Sincerely,
Richard J. Mills, Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration
Joshua Keniston, Vice President of Campus Services and Institutional Projects
Chris Peck, President of SEIU, Local 560
Billy Lyons, Vice President of SEIU, Local 560
