7/27/20: DBIC Phase 1B Reopening
The DBIC has received approval for Phase 1B of the Center, beginning Monday, August 3, under which we will be allowed to scan human participants, limited to non-undergraduate members of DBIC-affiliated labs. As you can imagine, our reopening activities remain restricted to specific activities and limited hours. We will continue to follow strict cleaning, PPE, health screening, and social distancing policies and procedures to protect the health of our research and broader communities.
- COVID-19 training (mandatory for researchers wishing to enter the DBIC)
- Research involving human subjects*
- Methods development
- Phantom studies
- MRI safety training
- MRI operator training
COVID-19 training
- All current users (operator and safety trained) will be required to attend a COVID-19 safety training session with Terry prior to initiating any research activities in the DBIC.
- These sessions will be limited to a maximum of three (Terry plus two research personnel). To schedule a COVID-19 training session, please email courtney.rogers@dartmouth.edu. COVID-19 safety training is required before you are allowed to initiate any research activities in the DBIC.
CPHS protocol modification (checklist)
Research being conducted in the DBIC during Phase 1B will need to be reviewed by the CPHS before research labs are allowed to resume research activities. Each lab will need to submit a modification to their protocol asking to conduct research during Phase 1B. There is very specific language and structure, as well as form to this modification request, so Courtney Rogers will help facilitate this process. To schedule a Zoom session on navigating this process , please email courtney.rogers@dartmouth.edu
. Recruitment for research studies is prohibited until CPHS approval has been obtained.

DBIC application
The DBIC application for Phase 1B studies can be found here. Completed applications should be submitted by email to courtney.rogers@dartmouth.edu.
Recruitment process
During Phase 1B, research participants will be restricted to non-undergraduate members of DBIC-affiliated labs only. Recruitment for research participants must be done in compliance with DBIC’s recruitment policy, and using DBIC’s CPHS-approved recruitment email. Recruitment for participants is not allowed until research labs have CPHS and DBIC approval.
Scheduling requirements
Scan time must be reserved with Courtney Rogers. You will be required to provide Courtney with an exact list of the research personnel who will be attending the scan session, as well as the name (or SID) of the participant. Any changes to that list must be submitted to and approved by Courtney Rogers before your scheduled scan slot. Anyone not on your list for that day’s scan will be turned away at the door.
The DBIC will require 30 minutes buffer time between research groups, changes in research personnel, and importantly, between research participants, to allow for proper cleaning and disinfection and to allow for the air to be cleared by the ventilation system.
COVID-19 screenings
Dartmouth College, as well as the DBIC, requires anyone entering the DBIC to complete the Temperature Self-Assessment.
The DBIC will also require completion of an additional online Health Screening form prior to entering the DBIC. This form will be reviewed and approved by Courtney Rogers.
If you have questions regarding DBIC’s Phase 1B reopening, or any of the policies and procedures listed in the email or on the website, please contact Courtney Rogers. We will be hosting a Zoom meeting on WEDNESDAY, JULY 29 AT 11AM to give you a chance to ask questions.
We hope you are all well, and look forward to having you back in the DBIC soon! If you have any questions between now and Wednesday, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thanks!
Courtney
