Placebo across the Pacific: Aussie insights into preclinical and experimental placebo analgesia

Abstract: In this presentation, Lewis will discuss his recent work identifying the brainstem pathways underlying placebo analgesia and nocebo hyperalgesia using 7T-fMRI, as well as his ongoing investigation into how changes in cortical connectivity may drive these modulatory effects. Damien will present his PhD work on developing novel animal models of placebo analgesia and nocebo hyperalgesia in the context of neuropathic pain. These models include both opioid-driven and stimulus-driven conditioned placebo or nocebo effects.
