Psychological science is traditionally defined as the study of behavior; neuroscience as the study of the nervous system. As a Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences we are focused on understanding mind and behavior in terms of underlying psychological processes that have their genesis in neural activity in the brain.
Graduate student Miriam Janssen's paper, "The Motivational Role of the Ventral Striatum and Amygdala in Learning From Gains and Losses," was awarded the 2023 D.G. Marquis Behavioral Neuroscience Award.
Senior Lecturer John Pfister recently invited renowned author and dowser, Tick Gaudreau, to visit his first-year seminar course, "Science, Pseudoscience, and Thinking Critically about Human Behavior."
PBS Störmer Lab Graduate student Yong Hoon Chung won the American Psychological Association Early Graduate Student Researcher Award, which recognizes students for outstanding research early in their graduate training.
