Ethnic Notions and Who Killed Vincent Chin? (Video)

In abundant detail, Ethnic Notions shows how white media have depicted blacks as a) ugly, b) savages and c) happy servants, impervious to poverty, slavery or segregation. It goes without saying that that’s unmitigated humbug. And yet a lot of people have been brought up to believe it. Many of them still do. Vintage drawings, still photos, film clips, Hollywood cartoons and songs, (along with comments from scholars) make the case that blacks have always been caricatured in stereotypes designed to rob them of their dignity.
