WISP Advice to Precollege Students and Their Parents:

• Mentoring, role models, and hands-on experience are the most powerful motivators for young women interested in the sciences.
  
  
• Take as many math and science courses as the high school schedule will allow.
  
  
• Pursue science enrichment opportunities through summer programs, internships, and/or job opportunities.

"In adolescence, many young women believe that people who succeed in science, mathematics, and technology are naturally gifted or different from them and they question their own abilities to pursue careers in these fields." [Seek out experiences that] help young women reevaluate their attitudes about mathematics, science and technology; gain experiences in these areas; and support educators in making these subjects accessible to all."
