GRADUATE RESEARCH (PH.D. PROGRAM)
www.dartmouth.edu/~psych/graduate/
If you've finished your bachelor's degree and are interested in getting a Ph.D. in psychology or cognitive neuroscience, visit the link above for more details on how to apply. For the Wheatley lab, prior neuroimaging training (fMRI, ERP) and/or research experience is encouraged.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
Dartmouth encourages undergraduate research experience in a number of ways. Below are several options and links to websites with more information. All options require the approval of the faculty member and an application. Independent study and honors research earn course credit, the rest offer stipends.

Women in Science Project (WISP)
www.dartmouth.edu/~wisp/
When to apply: fall term first year
As WISP interns, female students in their first year of college spend up to ten hours a week for two academic terms working with science faculty members on an ongoing research project.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) fellowship
www.dartmouth.edu/~ugar/undergrad/hhmi.html
When to apply: spring term, first year
Dartmouth College is one of 50 institutions in the United States selected for the prestigious Undergraduate Science Education Program Grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. HHMI fellowships take place during sophomore year and are either one or two terms in length, as per agreement between the student and faculty mentor.

James O. Freedman Presidential Scholars Program
www.dartmouth.edu/~ugar/undergrad/scholars/
Available to rising juniors who have attained a GPA in the top 40% of the class at the end of fall term of sophomore year. Scholars serve two terms during their junior year as research assistants on ongoing projects with Dartmouth faculty members (10 hrs/wk). Scholars may opt to have the second term credited as an independent study in lieu of stipend.

Independent Study (Psych 88 or 90)
www.dartmouth.edu/~psych/undergrad/courses/independent.html
The course is designed to enable qualified students to engage in independent laboratory or field research under the direction of a faculty member. In the context of the Wheatley lab this involves reading and synthesizing research related to one or more of our projects. This is often useful preparation for an honors thesis in the same area of research.

Honors Research (Psych 89 or 91)
www.dartmouth.edu/~psych/undergrad/courses/independent.html
When to apply: end of junior year/ beginning of senior year.
The honors thesis is designed for especially qualified students, usually seniors. In the Wheatley lab, an honors student takes a lead role in developing and running a research project. At the end of the thesis year, the student is expected to submit a written thesis, present a research poster, and pass an oral examination administered by the thesis committee.
