The signed contributions by nearly fifty scholars are organized into two main sections. The first examines Heidegger’s works, organized by key themes, terms, or titles (e.g., “Ereignis,” “Auseinandersetzung mit Nietzsche,” or “Die Frage nach dem Ding.” The second section examines the philosopher within the intellectual contexts of the time as well as from the standpoint of his influence. All essays in both sections include generous bibliographies. A chronology comprises a third section. As Frau Wahrig-Burfeind states in the preface, there is no turning back from the transition to the German orthographic reform that took effect Aug. 1, 1998 and whose transition period concludes—at this point—in 2005. This does not preclude refinements based on criticism, which could be instituted thereafter. The entries and examples in this dictionary are solely constructed according to the new rules, while ambiguous cases are presented for guidance. In addition to the usual appended grammatical apparatus, there is a substantial detailed commentary essay by Dr. Peter Eisenberg on “Grundregeln der deutschen Orthografie.” [RLK]
