Editor's Note

It is with a mixture of regret and relief that I step down as editor. It has been a pleasure to put out the Newsletter in collaboration with other WESS members, including former Assistant Editor John Cullars (ICIU), the column editors and other members of the Newsletter Subcommittee, and the successive officers of the Section. Yet is time, for the sanity of all concerned, to hand on the reins -- it's also required!

First-born of the section newsletters, the WESS Newsletter was established as a solid publication by my predecessor, Charlie Fineman (now of MH). The changes since he left have been due largely to the word processor and e-mail, and the greater collaboration they afford.

The Newsletter Subcommittee, now being dissolved, has played a key role in supporting theNewsletter. Especial thanks are owed former Subcommittee Chair Steve Lehmann (PU) for the process of ensuring a stable succession of editors. It is with great confidence that I turn the editing over to Marje Schuetze-Coburn, who has considerable experience as a newsletter editor. But, whoever is the Editor, the Newsletter cannot thrive without the contributions including, most importantly, copy of the Section's members. So, do not be a hypocritical reader, but submit copy!
