Art Resource
Art Resource has an entensive collection of fine art images (over three million images). You can look for a painting by artist, period, or subject. If you find the image you seek in their collection, contact them by phone or email and negotiate a license for use. Contact them even if you do not find the image on their site: they may have it or be able to find it for you.
ArtToday
The ArtToday collection contains clipart, fonts, buttons, arrows, and many, many other images you may find useful when creating a Web site. A portion of ArtToday's collection is available at no cost or you can become a member and access the full collection.
Corbis
The Corbis Collection is one of the most extensive available, with images from sources such as the National Gallery-London, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Bettmann Archive.
Copyright Clearance Center
This online licensing service allows you to submit permission requests for the use of copyrighted materials and will negotiate the licensing transaction for you. There are different licensing options to choose from, but the most relevant to educators might be the Electronic Course Content Service, which facilitates licensing for use in conjunction with online instruction.
Eyewire
The Eyewire site combines resources from different vendors to offer one of the most extensive content collections available. In addition to images, you can search for illustrations, video footage, and audio.
Photodisc: Royalty-Free Digital Stock Photography
Use Photodisc's search feature to locate and download free low-resolution images for comping purposes. If you decide to use a Photodisc image on your Web site you can purchase non-commercial rights for a nominal fee directly on the Photodisc Web site.
