The Dartmouth Upper Valley United Way Campaign (UVUW) has raised one-fourth of its $275,000 goal on the eve of this holiday giving season. Campaign Chair and Director of Community Relations Peter Glenshaw notes that $9,000 has come in from new donors.
Contributions to UVUW fund projects like Willing Hands, which gathers donations of fresh fruits and vegetables from 25 local grocers, farmers, bakers, and chefs for delivery to more than 45 local human service organizations.
UVUW helped launch Willing Hands with an emerging needs grant of $4,700 in 2005. The organization now distributes 2 to 3 tons of food per week, serving people from Orford, N.H., to Springfield, Vt.
“The UVUW was able to increase its support of Willing Hands to $20,000 for the Feeding Hungry Neighbors program in 2008,” notes Glenshaw. “Your support this year, in this time of economic crisis, will allow us to continue to assist neighbors who depend on organizations like Willing Hands.”
Dartmouth employees can give to UVUW through payroll deduction, check, or credit card, through the online pledge tool, or with a paper pledge form. Forms and information are available through department volunteers or may be downloaded at the campaign website.
