Bill Hochstin, Director of Materials Management

On the job: Hochstin manages the disposal and storage of College property: "Anything that isn't real estate or hazardous waste passes by me." He has been at Dartmouth for 27 years, and established Dartmouth Recycles in 1988.

Matchmaker:  "The College is making purposeful efforts to be mindful of the value of its resources as they leave," says Hochstin. That can mean finding buyers for decommissioned equipment or supporting Upper Valley nonprofits with donated materials. A recent example: desks used in New Hampshire Hall prior to its renovation found new homes at the Opportunities In Learning school in Cavendish, Vt.

In the market?  Hochstin hosts periodic tag sales at the College's surplus warehouse. Keep an eye on the Procurement Services Blitz bulletin, he suggests, or click here to visit the materials management website for news of items for sale to the public.
