Colleen Frakes, Library Circulation Services Student Supervisor

On the job: Frakes is responsible for managing more than 30 students who work at Baker-Berry Library's circulation desk. She previously worked at the Schulz Library in White River Junction, Vt., and has been at Dartmouth for one year.

Solved: "I like problem solving, which I do a lot of for student employees. I also do that for library patrons, helping them find exactly the right book. Even if we don't have it, we can use our Resource Sharing Department to find it."

Well drawn: Frakes, who has an M.F.A. in sequential art from the Center for Cartoon Studies, applies her artistic talent drawing caricatures for visitors at library open houses. "It's popular with the patrons, and it's a great way to get to know the students. People are always surprised that it's free!" At right is her take on presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain. Look for her original books at ArtWorks, the employee exhibition held annually in September.
