The Inaugural William W. Cook Lecture

William W. Cook
William W. Cook

Poet, novelist, essayist, and publisher Ishmael Reed returns to campus to speak about his remarkable creative partnership with William W. Cook, the Israel Evans Professor of Oratory and Belles Lettres emeritus. Their long-standing collaboration, which began at Dartmouth in 1980, produced three literary anthologies, three performance pieces, two off-Broadway plays, two books of poetry, two novels, and a blues song recorded by Grammy winner Cassandra Wilson. "We in the English department cannot think of a better person to launch this annual lecture named in Cook's honor," says Department Chair Gretchen Holbrook Gerzina.
