September 11 Memorial Dedication
Miranda Thomas's sketch for the September 11 Memorial plaque design. |
President James Wright and College Chaplain Richard Crocker will deliver remarks at a dedication ceremony for a memorial honoring the 11 members of the Dartmouth community who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The landscaped memorial, located in Dartmouth's Zahm Courtyard (between the Hopkins Center and the Hanover Inn), will include two benches and a cast bronze plaque. The plaque was designed by Miranda Thomas and the bench was made by Charles Shackleton, both of local company ShackeltonThomas. Jack Wilson of the
Office of Planning, Design, and Construction designed the memorial, in collaboration with Thomas and Shackleton. Vermont sculptor Larry Nowlan cast and carved the lettering for the plaque.
