President James Wright and Susan DeBevoise Wright received the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce's (HACC) inaugural Community Spirit Award at its annual meeting Jan. 21. The chamber also announced the establishment of the James and Susan Wright Community Spirit HACC Intern Scholarship.

New Hampshire Governor John Lynch issued a proclamation honoring the Wrights. It stated, "James Wright has been a cornerstone at Dartmouth College, and his insight, expertise, devotion, and leadership will continue to enhance Dartmouth College long after he leaves the presidency in June. ... Susan DeBevoise Wright has worked directly with hundreds of students ... [she is also] involved in many civic, educational, and community affairs."

Doug Wise '59, chair of the HACC board of directors, presented the award, saying, "This event acknowledges two individuals who exemplify the spirit and 'can-do' attitude that will sustain the Upper Valley through the coming months and years."
