The work of Dartmouth undergraduates occupied a prominent place in the first
New Hampshire Center for Nonprofits
Summit, held last month in Concord.
Patricia Palmiotto, director of the Allwin Initiative for
Corporate Citizenship at the Tuck
School of Business, oversaw the research conducted by eight Dartmouth
students who interviewed directors of nonprofit organizations throughout the
state, and compiled their findings and recommendations into a report that was
presented at the conference.
“Their report became a major focus of the conference discussions,” says
Palmiotto. “That on-the-ground work—talking and listening to people in
person—is so important to understanding the way an organization operates.”
The students who volunteered their time were Robert Higdon ’10, M. Canmert
Koral ’07, Anh Le ’10, S. Matthew McDonald ’09, Dustin McMahon ’08, Sayat
Ozyilmaz ’08, Janice Wong ’08, and Leon Yiu ’08. “We were challenged to ask
some potentially tough questions and to try to uncover aspects of the nonprofit
organization that might not be known right up front,” says Higdon ’10. “The
experience improved my ability to think unconventionally and from a variety of
perspectives.”
