Oct. 7–13 is National Fire Prevention week and the Office of Environmental Health and
Safety (EHS) is working to educate the campus community. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
theme this year is “Practice Your Escape Plan.” NFPA pamphlets will arrive in
all faculty and staff mail boxes in early October.
“Fire prevention at work and at home is a key topic we discuss with new
employees at Dartmouth,” says Michael Blayney, director of Environmental Health
and Safety. “Tragically, every year people die in house fires in New Hampshire
and Vermont and often they did not have working smoke detectors. Smoke
detectors are a simple and effective way to save lives and their batteries must
be changed at least once a year.”
