Fall Montgomery Fellows Announced

Merce Cunningham, Mary Robinson, and Thomas Cech coming to campus

Merce Cunningham, renowned choreographer and modern dance pioneer, will be in residence at Dartmouth with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company from October 2 until October 7. His Montgomery Fellow Lecture, "In Conversation with Merce Cunningham," will take place on Wednesday, October 3, at 7 p.m. in the Moore Theater. Cunningham's Montgomery Fellowship is made possible by the Kenneth and Harle Montgomery Endowment, and the company's residency has received substantial support from the Marion and Frederick Whittemore 1953 Distinguished Artist Series Fund at the Hopkins Center. The Company's performances, presented in conjunction with the Hopkins Center, will feature the premiere of XOVER, a work co-commissioned by the Hopkins Center featuring music by John Cage and decor by Robert Rauschenberg. Tickets will go on sale to the public on August 22 for performances on Friday, October 5, at 8 p.m., and Saturday, October 6, at 2 and 8 p.m.

Mary Robinson, human rights activist, former President of Ireland, and former U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights, visits Dartmouth October 7 through 10. Her Montgomery Fellow lecture, "Making Human Rights the Compass," will be held Tuesday, October 9, at 4:30 p.m. in the Moore Theater.

Thomas Cech, Nobel Laureate in chemistry and president of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, visits Dartmouth as a Montgomery Fellow October 29 through 31. Cech will present his public lecture, "Exploring the Edges Between Scientific Disciplines," on Tuesday, October 30, at 4:30 p.m. in Filene Auditorium, Moore Hall.
