Mary Lou Guerinot,
professor of biological
sciences and the Ronald and Deborah Harris Professor in the Sciences, will
deliver the 21st Annual Presidential Lecture, titled “Feeding the World: Are
Transgenic Plants Part of the Solution?” A reception will follow. The
Presidential Lecture Series was established to recognize the contributions of
outstanding members of the Dartmouth faculty. Guerinot is a molecular
geneticist and currently has grants from the National Institutes of Health, the
Department of Energy, and the National Science Foundation (NSF), including an
NSF-funded Plant Genome project that seeks to understand how rice takes up
essential nutrients from the environment as it grows.
