Dartmouth employees will give their winter senses a jolt at the 137th New England Flower Show in Boston, “Rhapsody in Green,” thanks to After Hours, a program of social, recreational, and cultural activities sponsored by the Office of Human Resources (HR) and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC). Reserve a space on the trip ($65 per adult—bus departs March 16 at 8:30 a.m. from DHMC) via e-mail.

After Hours, which began in 2005 as a way to bring employees together for intramural sports and social hours, has expanded in recent years to include more family friendly activities and cultural events. A moonlight snowshoe and bonfire, a gathering of beginning quilters, a social hour and quiz night, and a special talk with a jazz pianist, were just some of this winter’s activities. The program’s popularity is also growing—a trip to New York City in December drew over 100 people.
Jessica Friedman, worklife program manager at HR and the After Hours coordinator, says, “We strive to provide employees with opportunities to get acquainted, learn something new, or just have fun. It’s a relaxed, comfortable forum for people to share information. The networks that people form are particularly helpful for new employees, who are looking to become more rooted in their homes and communities.”
In an effort to gain wider exposure in the Dartmouth community, After Hours co-sponsors events with employee resource groups, such as First Friday, a multicultural networking group, and the Coalition for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Concerns (CGLBTC). To co-sponsor an event, contact Jessica Friedman at 646-8179 or via e-mail.
