Folt says, "I am very pleased that Meredith has accepted our offer to
serve as Dartmouth's next registrar. As the academic officer responsible for
the planning, organization, and record-keeping of instructional activities, she
clearly has the depth and breadth of experience to lead the registrar's office
into the future. The associate deans and I look forward to working with her to
strengthen the academic services we provide to students and faculty."
Braz says she is "energized by the prospect of joining the Dartmouth
community." She adds, "I was drawn to Dartmouth's commitment to
undergraduate education; its talented students, staff, and faculty; and its
beautiful campus. A registrar enjoys a unique position that is central to the
institution, allowing opportunities to be a resource and facilitator of
information and change. I look forward to continuing the development of
partnerships with many academic and administrative areas at
Dartmouth."
Braz is a graduate of St. Lawrence University and received a Master of Arts
in Teaching from Smith College. She spent 15 years in the Bates College
Registrar's Office, starting as assistant registrar in 1991 and progressing to
registrar, registrar and director of student financial services, and finally
registrar and administrative dean for academic systems. Prior to her tenure at
Bates, she taught in Massachusetts and Vermont schools. Braz also worked in the
Sophia Smith Collection, a women's history archive at Smith College, at
Williston-Northampton School, and at the Yarmouth Historical Society.
She has served as vice president for professional development and chair of
the Nominations Committee for the New England
Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Counselors (NEACRAO).
She is currently president-elect of NEACRAO and will assume the office in
November. Braz has also served as a member of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and
Admissions Officers (AACRAO) task force to study the impact of outsourcing
in registrars and admissions offices. She served on the Small College Issues
Committee and is a frequent presenter at the AACRAO national meetings. Braz is
recognized as a national expert on implementing Web registration, course
proposal and class schedule creation strategies, online course evaluation,
merging offices and re-engineering, and developing a tutorial on higher
education law.
Braz will be joined in Hanover by her husband, Joe.
