Working from a temporary salon in Baker Library's main corridor, stylist
Leah Simmons gives Bill Denton, father of Remy Denton '08, a haircut. Denton's
campus visit included sharpening his appearance and contributing to a major
work of art, thanks to the Hood
Museum of Art's Community Hair Drive. The Hood organized the July 28 event
in collaboration with the Dartmouth Library to collect hair donations in
preparation for a major site-specific installation by Chinese artist Wenda Gu,
who creates large-scale sculptures from human hair. Students at the New England
School of Hair Design in West Lebanon, N.H., donated the free haircuts. Gu's
Dartmouth installation is scheduled for display in Baker-Berry Library in June
2007.
