This year, the Dartmouth College
Library inaugurates the Student Library Service Bookplate Program, which
will honor its graduating student employees by inviting them to choose books
for the Library's collections. Each book will receive a bookplate that
acknowledges the student's selection and honors his or her service to the
Library. Students are eligible for the honor if they have worked at least four
terms in any Library department (including RWIT, the Student Center for
Research, Writing, and Information Technology, which the Library collaborates
in running).

"Student assistants are vital to the success of the Dartmouth College
Library. Their energy and dedication brings a perspective that enriches the
work we all do. The Library is so grateful for the hours they share with us,
and we are delighted to honor their service through this program," says
Jeffrey Horrell, dean of libraries and librarian of the College.
"Recognition of this sort is great," says Shounak Simlai '05,
Thayer '07, a student assistant at the Feldberg Business and
Engineering Library, which serves the Tuck and Thayer Schools. "It
provides another reason for me to look back at my Dartmouth experience
positively. I've asked for books that will make it easier for future
generations of students who are writing papers on obscure topics."
Adam Shpeen '07, an RWIT tutor, says, "Spending countless hours
scouring Library resources throughout my four years at Dartmouth has given me a
deep appreciation for the scope of the resources available. I am thrilled to
make an addition, however small, to that vast collection."
For Nancy Zhao '07, a Baker-Berry Library assistant, the bookplate program
is a fitting culmination to her work: "I think Library jobs are some of
the best student jobs on campus, and it has been a lot of fun working here over
the years," she says. "It is an honor to be recognized."
The Library will honor over 50 students from the Class of
2007, with selections ranging from graphic novels, world fiction in
translation, and ultimate Frisbee guides to studies of Mexican politics and
musical scores. This year's seniors and their selections will be celebrated
with Commencement week
displays at all of Dartmouth's campus libraries.
