Heather Lisle '07 (left) and Ashley Malenchak '08 (right) practice their
crosscut saw skills at Oak Hill while Laura Kamfonik '08 looks on. The students
are members of the Dartmouth team preparing for the April 20 and 21 Woodsmen's Weekend, a
competition held at Dartmouth every three years.
The event, organized by Cabin and Trail, a division of the Dartmouth Outing Club, is held at Oak
Hill and on the Green and features events such as the axe throw, fly cast,
vertical chop, quarter split, log roll, pack board relay, and portage canoeing.
For the first time in recent memory, the pole climb challenge will return to
campus when a tractor-trailer transports a 50-foot pine onto the Green for
students to scramble up. Approximately 180 students from eight colleges are
expected to participate. For more information, visit the Web
site.
