The Employment Policies and Procedures manual has been updated for the first
time since 1998. The new manual, which went live online in November 2006,
serves as an immediate, up-to-date resource on policies such as annual
performance reviews, conflict of interest, health and safety, or hours of
work.
"The new format allows for timely updating of policies as soon as they
have been approved, so it can provide employees with current and consistent
information," says Human Resources Business Operations Manager Jessica
Friedman, who coordinated the project. "We've arranged it in an intuitive
way that we hope will be helpful to people searching for information."
In addition to individual policy specifics, the manual has links to related
procedures and forms, and a date that notes when the policy was last updated.
If employees have earlier print versions of the handbook, they should be
recycled, says Friedman. "This is now the policy of record, and it
supercedes all previous versions, including the blue staff handbook."
While the blue staff handbook was a combination of a policy manual and
employee handbook, this new online manual is for employee policies and
procedures only. Friedman says that the Office of Human Resources is
currently developing a separate employee handbook, which will also be published
online.
The policy manual is
