United Way Campaign Close to Setting Record

Still time to help push total over the top

There's still time for Dartmouth faculty, staff, and students to help the 2006 Upper Valley United Way's (UWUV) Dartmouth campaign reach its goal. The campaign currently needs to raise an additional $35,000 to reach its record goal of $265,000. Donations made by March 31 will help close that gap and support the variety of health and human services—including a new Community Impact Initiative to prevent poverty—that the UVUW and its partner agencies provide to the Upper Valley community.

"This year, our United Way campaign will have an even greater impact on the Upper Valley community because of the new initiative," says Susan DeBevoise Wright, honorary chair of the Dartmouth campaign and a member of the UVUW Board of Directors. "Dartmouth has always stepped up to help those in need, and I'm confident we'll meet our goal again this year," adds Wright. "Thank you to all who have participated and to all who will."

In December, the UVUW launched its first Community Impact Initiative. "Increasing the job and life skills of at-risk Upper Valley youth offers a significant opportunity to change lives by preventing future poverty," explains Dana Hansen, UVUW campaign director. "We will engage existing service providers, corporate partners, and possibly new partners in the educational field and municipal governments to develop innovative and effective strategies."

"The Dartmouth campaign is part of the $1.2 million campaign that UVUW needs to support the programs and agencies that provide services to over 35,000 local people," says William Hochstin, Dartmouth United Way campaign chair and the director of materials management in the Procurement Office. "We are very grateful to all who have made their contributions and pledges. Our campaign will end on March 31, and we hope that those who have postponed the decision will now be able to join us."

Donations can still be made through the personalized eWay online donation links that were sent to all employees by e-mail last fall. Employees may e-mail for paper donation forms or help with online donations. Hochstin is also available to provide assistance via email or at 646-3020. Forms and more information can be found at the Dartmouth United Way Web site.
