Winter Carnival
"Dartmouth Down the Rabbit Hole" is the theme for this year's Winter Carnival, to
be held Feb. 8 through 11. Events include the human dog sled race, polar bear
swim, Occom Pond party, and two days of intercollegiate competition for the Dartmouth Ski Team. Dartmouth's
first Winter Carnival was held in 1911.
Regarding the theme, Hannah Dreissigacker '09, co-chair of the carnival with
Elizabeth Teague '09, says, "The idea comes from Alice in Wonderland.
Focusing on the characters and stories in the book creates opportunities for
interesting sculpture, décor, and costumes." The co-chairs also wanted to
pay tribute to Dartmouth's skiing heritage. This year's sculpture, masterminded
by Dan Schneider '07, is a white rabbit skiing off a jump.
