Learning laboratory opens

Left to right: Provost Barry Scherr, Montshire Museum Director David Goudy and AVA Gallery Executive Director Bente Torjusen met at the Nov. 22 opening of the Dartmouth Center for Cognitive and Educational Neuroscience (CCEN). The Center, funded by a five-year, $21.8 million grant from the National Science Foundation, will work to understand the brain mechanisms of learning and develop new techniques for K-12 students and teachers. CCEN's partnership with the Montshire Museum of Science, a hands-on science museum located in Norwich, Vt., ensures a valuable connection to teachers and educators in the community. CCEN is also hosting an ongoing exhibition of works by local artists, on loan from the AVA Gallery and Art Center in Lebanon, N.H., in its Baker Library offices. The opening event drew hundreds of attendees from the campus and surrounding communities.
