Oct. 4 ceremony honors former Dartmouth president

A memorial service for David T. McLaughlin, former President of Dartmouth, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, in Rollins Chapel.
A reception will follow the service at the Top of the Hop.
McLaughlin, of Newbury, N.H., died Aug. 25 at age 72, of natural causes in Dillingham, Alaska, during a fishing trip with friends and his two sons. He was a member of the Dartmouth Class of 1954 and the Tuck School of Business Class of 1955. (Complete obituary for David T. McLaughlin, 14th President of Dartmouth.)
McLaughlin served as Dartmouth's President from 1981 to 1987, having previously chaired the College's Board of Trustees during his business career. After leaving Dartmouth, he served a wide range of nonprofit and corporate organizations in a governing or executive capacity, and was particularly well known for his work with The Aspen Institute from 1987 to 1997 first as Chairman and then as President and CEO; the American Red Cross, as Chairman from 2001 to 2004; and Viacom Inc., as a Director from 1979 to 2004 (includes service with affiliated entities Westinghouse and CBS).
