Editor's Pick: Performance

DJ Spooky
Remix of The Birth of a Nation

Paul Miller aka DJ Spooky That Subliminal Kid, remixes D.W. Griffith's 1915 film The Birth of a Nation, blending original footage with new video imagery accompanied by a live audio mix of original violin, jungle and hip-hop, connecting early "jump cut" editing techniques to the role of today's DJ. The performance is part of Inside/Out: Making the Invisible Visible, Dartmouth College's 2005 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.

The Birth of a Nation will be shown in its original version on Jan. 16 with an introduction by Assoc. Professor of Film and Television Studies Mark Williams. It will also be the subject of a panel discussion, "History Written with Lightning," on Jan. 17.

  • 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18
  • Moore Theater
  • Followed by a spotlight discussion with the artist
  • $22, Dartmouth students with ID $5
  • 646-2422
