During a Jan. 14 visit to Dartmouth, U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige said, "In my interactions today with faculty and students, I have heard much about Dartmouth's commitment to the Hanover community and the multi-state area. That commitment is most welcome. This is education at its finest. A missionary zeal, backed by formidable research, gives us the best in both science and service." Paige's visit recognized Dartmouth's new vision for its education department, which involves a commitment to basic research in child development and its principled application both to education and to teacher training.
