A retired athletic administrator and an alumni ambassador who have a combined tenure that represents more than a century of association with athletics at Dartmouth will be honorary inductees at the fifth gathering of the Wearers of the Green on May 14 at the Westin Hotel in Boston.
The inductees at the celebration, held every five years, are Seaver (Pete) Peters '54, David E. Orr '57 and Carla Manley '40a.
They will join nearly 125 new Wearers of the Green at the gathering, which honors Dartmouth undergraduates, graduates and coaches for achievement in Ivy League athletics or as Olympians, All-Americas, world or national champions, members of halls of fame or as major league professionals.
"When one looks at the accomplishments and records set by teams and individuals in athletics within a college setting at a school like Dartmouth, it is never just about the 'visible' participants," said Director of Athletics Josie Harper. "It is also about those who give back to the College and its athletic program in ways that do not appear on a scoreboard."

During his 16-year tenure, Seaver Peters held leadership positions on numerous Ivy League, ECAC and NCAA committees.
His contributions included improvements to athletic facilities (including Thompson Arena, which opened in 1974) and as the principal athletic administrator when Dartmouth became a coeducational institution in 1972. Under Peters's leadership, Dartmouth expanded the intercollegiate athletic program from 17 men's teams to more than 30 teams for men and women.
David Orr was a sportswriter for three years after graduating. He joined the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine staff in 1960. In 1962 he moved to Alumni Relations and for nearly 40 years had oversight for annual class reunions and regional alumni club programs.
Carla Manley was a pediatric nurse and hospital administrator in New York City and Miami before she married John Manley in 1986. They moved to Hanover in 1987 after John Manley's retirement from a career in finance. She is an adopted member of the Class of 1940.

Their donation in 1989 created the football team's Manley Weight Room in Davis Varsity House. The John and Carla Manley Intercollegiate Fitness and Training Center in Alumni Gym was built with a subsequent gift in 1997.
"I'm the new kid on the block, but I remember how proud and honored John was when he was inducted into the Wearers of the Green in 1994," she said. "I was drawn to athletics at Dartmouth by John's great love for the teams. I'm following in his footsteps."
