FEBRUARY ELEVENTH, 1995
THE FORTIETH BIRTHDAY OF CONES 4 and 5 TULUMAN, VOLCANO, PAPUA NEW GUINEA
Born February 11, 1955, in the North Bismark Sea.
Cones Four and Five, the first surface outbreaks at two of the six sites from which
igneous products were emitted, collectively called the volcano Tuluman. In
the period 1953-1957 the submarine activity gave rise to two islands
Of the eight sites of submarine activity all but Cones 1 and 6 gave rise to land above
sealevel. Between 1954-1957 six cones (designated Cones 2,3,4,5,7A,7B) appeared at
one or another time above sea level in this area. The birthdays of all these
cones have been recorded.here. There are some who would catagorize all the
cone eruptions as being part of a single volcanic eruption. All emitted
solid or liquid igneous material above sea level; are not at the same site
as, or on the flanks of a subaerial volcano. These attributes qualify
them as being "New Volcanoes"

FEBRUARY TWENTIETH 1995
THE FIFTY SECOND BIRTHDAY OF PARÍCUTIN VOLCANO, MEXICO
Born Feb. 20, 1943, Parícutin is now 424 meters above the surroundings.
There are no recorded eruptions since the period of activity 1943-March,4,1952
During this period the volcano was closely and continually monitored, chiefly by
scientists of the U S Geological Survey. Among the geologists monitoring and
studying the volcano were the Mexican gelogist, Dr.Esequiel Ordó:ñez
and Gutiérrez,
Foshag,Wilcox, Segerstrom and Fries of the U.S. Geological Survey. Information about
these geologists is included in the Paríutin monograph of Luhr and Simkin.
Fumarole tempertures at the Ahuan vent in November1985 were as high as 473
degrees C., higher than the last time mesasured in April 1983 and had
declined to in 1976
The event was witnessed by the owner of the farm, Dionisio Pulido. He described
seeing a hole in the ground, the ground rising 2 or 21/2 meters and ash coming from
the crack.

FEBRUARY TWENTY-THIRD 1995
THE TWO HUNDRED TWENTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY OF IZALCO VOLCANO, EL SALVADOR
Born Feb. 23,1770. Some have said 1769, but it is unlikely.
Now 1965 m above the surroundings. There were strong earthquakes at the end of
1769.
Last eruption Oct. 30, 1966
