Application Process
Venture Fund awards are decided by an Advisory Council that consists of four faculty members, the director of Computing Services, a senior administrator, and two professionals from the Academic Computing staff. Generally we issue a request for proposals (RFP) once each year. Once the deadline has passed, the proposals are sent to the members of the Advisory Council, which then meets to decide on the awards.
If you are thinking about applying for a Venture Fund grant, we strongly encourage you to contact us. Those of us not serving on the Advisory Council can help you shape your ideas and work with you as you prepare the drafts for your final proposal. Our past experience shows that this kind of collaboration invariably produces stronger proposals, greatly increasing the likelihood of approval. The Advisory Council carefully considers each proposal, giving approval only to those proposals that clearly articulate the proposed project, have thought through the details, and meet all the requirements specified in the request for proposals (RFP).
We are eager to help you with your ideas for innovating in your curriculum using computing. We urge you to come talk to us, whether you are just beginning to think about options or you have some clear ideas on where you'd like to go.
The next deadline is May 15, 2008. Submissions should be sent in Word format to Malcolm Brown.
Sample Proposal
This sample proposal (viewable using Adobe Acrobat Reader) is an example of a successful Venture Fund proposal. It was submitted by Elizabeth Chamberlain of Spanish & Portuguese. The web site for this project is Modulos Culturales.
This proposal serves as a good example in that it observes the page limit (5 pages), clearly describes its proposed idea, specifies which courses and terms it will be initially used, and includes a budget.
