Upperclass Deans Office Administrative Intern

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The primary purpose of the internship in the Upperclass Deans Office is to initiate projects which will enhance interaction between the deans and students.  The interns participate actively in office affairs in order to gain a broad understanding of the range of the office services and activities.  Responsibilities may include organizing events such as the "major confusion/enlightenment" academic fair, meet the sophomore class dean, opportunities at Dartmouth...  The interns also plan programs to promote communication between students and class deans.

Students interested in applying for the internship should be prepared to discuss ideas for potential projects and should be aware of the current issues concerning the College.  Strong candidates will demonstrate creativity, perceptiveness, analytical ability, and independence.  Also, because the interns serve as liaisons between the upperclass deans and the student body, candidates should be able to communicate effectively with diverse student groups.

Necessary skills are excellent communication, creativity, initiative, solid follow-through on programs and projects from beginning to end. We are interested in understanding and meeting the needs of students in a variety of ways (outreach, programs, surveys, focus groups, meetings...) and our interns play an important role in meeting these goals. Web editing and HTML experience are a plus but not required.

The intern is expected to be available fall, winter, and spring terms for approximately 10-15 hours per week.  Applications are welcome from all students without regard to any prior contact with the Upperclass Deans Office.

If you have further questions, please contact Lisa Thum (646-2243). Applications are due by Friday, April 4.
