Academic Separation

Separation is the likely consequence of repeated unsatisfactory scholarship subsequent to a previous suspension for unsatisfactory scholarship or a previous withdrawal with prejudice. A student who has been separated is not normally eligible for readmission. The student must leave campus within 48 hours of notification of Separation and may not return to campus without prior permission from the Dean's Office.

A student in satisfactory standing who has been previously suspended (or withdrawn with prejudice) for unsatisfactory scholarship will be separated if he or she receives two grades of D and an E (or NC) or at least two grades of E (or NC) in one term. A student on Probation who has been previously suspended (or withdrawn with prejudice) for unsatisfactory scholarship will be separated if he or she receives one grade of D in one term. A student who warrants suspension (including "Withdrawal with Prejudice") a second time will be separated.

Separation carries with it the following consequences:

  • the action is recorded in the student's file in the Office of the Dean of the College and is reflected on academic records and transcripts;
  • a notification letter will normally be sent to parents.
