OAC Process outcomes 2007-2008

Summer 2007

The Tabard was found responsible for violating the College Standards of Conduct II and IV on May 30, 2007. Tabard hosted an event where students were encouraged to violate College Policy by being disorderly (Standard II), and Tabard awarded marijuana and alcohol as prizes for the event (Standard IV). Tabard was placed on social probation* for 4 weeks, beginning September 26th, 2007. Tabard was required to develop guidelines about drug use and develop written guidelines for "What Would You Do?" or a like activity before hosting such an event again.

Bones Gate was found responsible for possession of an unregistered keg on May 27, 2007. The organization was placed on two weeks of social probation* to be served at the beginning of fall term. Bones Gate was required to develop a comprehensive annual education program for new members.

Men's and Women's Crew Teams were found responsible for hosting an event where alcohol was consumed in an unauthorized area and damage was done to a facility on June 5, 2007. The teams, who had no prior disciplinary history, were sanctioned to a reprimand and required to develop plans for managing social events and pay full restitution for the damages.

Gamma Delta Chi was found responsible for possessing two unauthorized kegs on June 23, 2007. In light of its extensive disciplinary history concerning previous similar incidents, Gamma Delta Chi was placed on social probation* for the fall term with a requirement that the organization work with the CFS Office to develop a plan for ensuring compliance with College policy and state law in the future. Gamma Delta Chi was also informed that, "...further violations could result in lengthy or indefinite loss of the privilege to have alcohol in the house."
Gamma Delta Chi's request to have the length of their probation reduced was granted after the organization showed success in meeting its goals and following College policy. The probation was removed on November 1, 2007.

Kappa Kappa Kappa was found responsible for possessing an alcoholic punch on or about August 31, 2007. The organization was placed on social probation for one week beginning October 24, 2007. Tri Kap was required to meet with CFS Administration to develop both proactive and reactive measures to be used in addressing alumni who choose to return to the college on visiting weekends and during interim periods. Tri Kap was also required to develop a handout/checklist of basic rules and procedures to be posted near entrances of their house and to be given to visiting alumni. These documents will also be made available for use by other organizations.

Fall 2007

Bones Gate was found responsible for possessing three unauthorized kegs on October 5, 2007. In light of their history (see above), the organization was placed on social probation* for four weeks beginning November 9, 2007. Bones Gate was also required to address fire safety issues before hosting another event.

Panarchy was found responsible for possessing an unauthorized punch on or about October 10, 2007. The organization was placed on social probation* for one week beginning October 18, 2007 and they were required to develop a plan for informing members about alcohol policy outside of social events.

Alpha Delta was found responsible for possessing unauthorized kegs on October 21, 2007. The organization was placed on three weeks of social probation* beginning November 13, 2007.

Sigma Phi Epsilon was found responsible for possessing drug paraphernalia on or about October 23, 2007. The organization was given a warning.

Chi Heorot was found responsible for a violation of College Standard of Conduct II as a result of conduct on or about November 10, 2007 when members of the organization caused a serious disruption at another house. The committee did not find Chi Heorot responsible for other alleged violations. Chi Heorot was placed on probation for seven weeks and required to review and more fully develop the functions and roles of leaders in the organization, review and more fully develop the responsibilities of members of the organization, and plan and complete a community service project by the end of the probationary period.

Gamma Delta Chi was found responsible for possessing an unauthorized keg on or about December 1, 2007. In light of the organization's recent sanction (see above) and extensive prior history, Gamma Delta Chi was placed on social probation for 16 weeks and the house physical plant must be alcohol-free for the winter term. Gamma Delta Chi is also required to implement their action plan for house management, hold a leadership retreat, and inform all members of the incident and conditions of the sanction.


*Organizations on social probation are not allowed to have alcohol in the common spaces of their house and the organization and not permitted to host or co-host social events with alcohol.
