Conor Hackett recently graduated from Dartmouth with the class of 2007 where
he served as Phi Delta Alpha’s social chair and risk manager, worked in the
Tucker Foundation’s Dean’s Office, and served with the SEAD program. After
deciding to forgo graduate school for a couple of years and gain practical
experience as a member of the workforce, he followed his passion for service
and became an AmeriCorps VISTA, the capacity he currently serves at the Tucker
Foundation.
As a VISTA, he will experience living at the poverty level while working in
Tucker’s National Service Programs. He will be specifically responsible for
overseeing Dartmouth Partner’s in Community Service (DPCS), Alternative Spring
Break Trips (ASB’s), Katrina Relief Trips, and the SEAD program. His previous
experience with Tucker, the SEAD program, and the Dartmouth community, make him
a valuable resource.
Conor hails from Northern Virginia where he attended The Potomac School for
12 years. Serving his local community there for many years, he received the
McLean Youth Scholar Athlete Award for his outstanding achievements. After
graduating from high school, he deferred his enrollment to Dartmouth for one
year during which he traveled through Fiji, Australia, and New Zealand and then
worked to fully finance the trip.
After completing his one-year tenure with the VISTA program, Conor hopes to
find another work opportunity before heading to business school. Although he is
still uncertain about where he would like to go professionally, he has a strong
interest in both the non-profit sector and in consulting.
