Rebecca Briller is the new AmeriCorps VISTA for National and Local Service. In this position, she will be working with Tracy Dustin-Eichler and Jan Tarjan on the Dartmouth Partners in Community Service (DPCS) Internship and Post-Graduate Fellowship programs as well as advising local service groups and assisting with larger projects for Dartmouth Community Services (DCS). Her work with the DPCS programs will include developing recruitment and selection strategies, selecting and training program participants, and increasing the effectiveness of the internship experience. Her work with DCS will include assisting project chairs with fundraising and volunteer recruitment, developing training modules, assisting with faculty engagement initiatives, and conducting best practices analyses. She will also serve on the Tucker Programming Committee and will assist with additional student and community engagement initiatives.

Rebecca is from Warwick, New York, in the picturesque Hudson Valley. She graduated with honors from Cornell University in May 2009, studying Industrial and Labor Relations and completing minors in Inequality Studies and Law & Society.

Rebecca comes to the VISTA role with a passion for service and an interest in higher education. Her work in service extends back through her high school years, where she helped found her town’s Leo Club (an offshoot of Lions International), where she served as president as well as sat on the board of directors. She also participated in several service opportunities in college, including an active membership in Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity, an Alternative Break to the South Bronx, and as a student assistant to an Urban 4-H program. Her enthusiasm for higher education stems from her honors thesis, which explored the determinants of satisfaction with one’s academic major, as well as her longtime work in admissions at Cornell, and she continues to maintain an interest in student engagement and high-impact practices in her work at Tucker.

Rebecca currently lives in Hanover, NH and enjoys spending her free time participating in the Upper Valley Community Orchestra as a violinist, honing her culinary skills with her roommate, cheering on the Yankees, and exploring the Upper Valley.
