In a branch of the Religious Society of Friends which has traditionally abjured formal ministerial training and prepared sermons, Judy Anne Williams began her career in youth ministry, devoting more than 12 years to work with high-school- and college-aged Quaker youth. In her younger days, she also spent seven years writing and performing music and giving public ministry with, of all things, a Quaker gospel choir. Her further experience has included delivering keynote addresses, presenting workshops, leading retreats, and serving in various ways among Friends. She was the Presiding Clerk of North American Friends for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Concerns from 2005 until 2007. Her interests include Christian mysticism, particularly that of the late medieval period, feminist and Queer theology, and New Testament studies.
