Student Director for the Cross Cultural Education and Service Program
Assistant to the Dean
Term of Position: Summer Term (Off campus), Fall Term, Winter Term, Spring Term
Hours: 12-15 hours/week
Prerequisite: A Senior who has participated in CCESP
Reports To: The Dean of the Tucker Foundation
Compensation: Work-study eligible or modest stipend
Duties and Responsibilities
- Meet with the Dean one (1) hour weekly.
- Assist Dean in all aspects of developing CCESP.
- Meet with the Project Officer weekly to get updates of team progress.
- Submit weekly reports to the Dean and Bridges Staff.
- Meet with Student Director at beginning of fall term to delineate responsibilities and tasks to minimize overlap.
- Serve as a liaison between the Tucker Foundation; Dartmouth College, Tuck Business School, Dartmouth Medical School, and Thayer Engineering school; professors in the respective schools; participant organizations (both in the US and in Nicaragua); sponsors (financial and otherwise); the Bridges of Community New York Office; and any others that impact the program.
- Serve as a spokesperson for the program to faculty, alumni, and graduate schools (i.e. Tuck, Thayer, Dartmouth Medical School).
- Oversee the recruitment and selection of professionals with the faculty sponsors.
- Oversee the recruitment of graduate students from the Dartmouth Medical School and Thayer School of Engineering.
- Oversee strategic plan for CCESP Program and participate in coordination of long-term funding.
- Assist in coordinating the public documents for the program.
- Assist the research teams (i.e. Construction, Medical, Agricultural) in coordinating funding and site-visit logistics.
- Go to Nicaragua as a team member and assist in cultivating the long-term relationships with the local community (i.e. The mayor, city officials, hospital personnel and the Uraccan University) there will be no other on-site responsibilities.
In summary, the Student Director shall help develop a foundation for the program by planning for the long term. This foundation should involve (1) coordination of the multiple components of the program (2) a common vision for the program (3) the engagement of Dartmouth college Faculty and academic departments (4) input from a variety of sources, such as NGOs and government bodies, regarding the program’s direction (5) the fostering of additional funding sources (financial and otherwise) (6) the creation of a written, coherent statement of the ideas, goals, and principles of the program and (7) an enhancement in the student leadership model of the program.
