Project Bangladesh

Overview

  • Charfassion Orphanage houses 100 boys and serves as community shelter for the 2,000 Bhola Island residents during monsoon season.

Laughing boys

  • Currently, the orphanage is structurally unsound due to water damage
  • Dartmouth Graduate Matt Sueoka ’04 took up the project and redesigned the orphanage for his Senior Honors Thesis using professional architects and engineers in the US and Bangladesh
  • Fundraising is taking place to finance the rebuilding of the orphanage and connect academics with the real world to create real change
  • In the future, an international collaborative classroom between Dartmouth and the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) will be set up to continue work on this orphanage. Dartmouth students will also be able to participate in cross-cultural education and service trips to the orphanage.
