Early College Awareness

Program Description

Early College Awareness (ECA) seeks to promote higher education among high school students in rural New Hampshire. The program works with the juniors and seniors at Mascoma Valley Regional High School in Canaan, NH. Volunteers offer workshops and individual attention for students beginning in the winter of their junior year and follow them through the college prep and application process through their senior fall.

Note: Early College Awareness runs in the Fall and Winter terms. Many volunteers choose to apply to the Let's Get Ready program, which provides SAT prep courses for Mascoma students during the spring term.

Requirements

Time Commitment:

• Mentors attend mandatory training and evaluation meetings
• 1-2 hours weekly
• Consistency and reliability are mandatory

Transportation:

• If eligible, volunteers are required to become driver approved
• Access to Tucker vehicles (after driver approval) is available
