Program Description

Be a part of a program that links 6th and 7th grade students at Hartford Memorial Middle School in White River Junction, VT with Dartmouth Volunteers in a supportive environment that celebrates diversity and values honest and open communication.

Join the girls in their two year exploration of the academic, social, and emotional challenges of adolescence. Help guide the boys through a year-long exploration of the academic, social, and emotional challenges of adolescence.

Hartford Memorial Middle School students meet weekly with Dartmouth mentors for interactive activities and discussions about topics such as

  • Boys
    • Relationships
    • Puberty
    • Peer pressure
    • Drugs and alcohol
  • Girls
    • Identity and self-esteem
    • Community and relationships
    • Decision making and planning

Mentors attend mandatory training and evaluation meetings. The time commitment is approximately 2 hours per week. Consistency and reliability are mandatory.

Mentors are required to become driver approved. Access to Tucker vehicles (after driver approved) is available and usually a carpool is arranged.
