The Steps Toward Adult Responsibility (STAR) Mentoring Program is a mentoring program between Dartmouth students and adolescents with chronic illnesses or disability in the Upper Valley and surrounding areas. Volunteers take part in planned group events.
Mentors serve as role models for these young adults with special needs, who often experience social isolation due to their medical problems and may be apprehensive about the future.
You can relay the "You Can Do It" message while spending time together walking, attending a sporting or music event, or just hanging out.
The STAR Program is a collaborative effort between Local Service at the Tucker Foundation and the Special Needs Support Center and is designed to help teenagers with chronic illness and disability transition into adulthood.
