WISE @ Dartmouth

Program Description

The mission of WISE is to empower victims of domestic and sexual violence and stalking to become safe and self-reliant through crisis intervention and support services.  Volunteers with WISE @ Dartmouth participate in a dual-state recognized training and earn certification to receive confidential calls from victims through the crisis hotline.

While volunteers are on-call during their 2 overnight shifts per month, they receive calls from primary and secondary victims of domestic violence or sexual assault.  Guided by their training, volunteers serve as resources for the victims and help advocate for them within the appropriate legal, protective and/or medical arenas.

Requirements

Time Commitment

  • A mandatory 30-hour training hosted by WISE of the Upper Valley (often held in 2-3 intensive weekend trainings)
  • Orientation session at the beginning of your first term volunteering
  • A one-year commitment to WISE (does not have to be consecutive terms, but 4 cumulative terms minimum); at least 2 on-call shifts per month
  • Additional 2-3 hours per term for continuing education and reflection

Transportation

  • Volunteers are required to become driver approved or have their own transport in case of visit during shift
  • Access to Tucker vehicles (after driver approved) is available
