Haven Adult Shelter

Program Description

The Upper Valley Haven, located in White River Junction, VT, provides temporary shelter and educational programming for homeless families and adults as well as food and clothing to anyone in need.

The Haven Adult Shelter program provides an opportunity for student volunteers to serve at the Hixon House, the new adult shelter facility at the Haven.  Each Saturday, students prepare nutritious meals and eat alongside the residents to share stories and learn from each others experiences.

Requirements

Time Commitment

• A mandatory orientation session at the beginning of your first term volunteering with the Haven Adult Shelter

• Requires a 3-4 hours Saturday time commitment, at least every other week

• An additional 1-2 hours per term for discussion, training and reflection meetings

Transportation

•  Volunteers are required to become driver approved

• Access to Tucker vehicles (after driver approved) is available, and usually a carpool is arranged.
